Constipation remedies

Whenever one is suffering from constipation, the usual recourse it to avail of laxatives from a nearby drugstore for immediate relief. However, over-the-counter (OTC) medications may pose side-effects and other discomfort. While it is true that constipation may be treated, other inevitable effects of the medicines causes discomfort and stress. With these in mind, natural remedies from herbal medication comes into the picture as such natural medicines do not yield side-effects. Listed below are the natural remedies for constipation.

Fruits and Vegetables

Eat fruits and vegetables that are rich in large amount of fiber and roughage. These can be found in fruits such as mangoes, figs, orange, papaya, and guava. The seeds of guava fruit have large amount of roughage that is proven to aid in increasing the ability to move bowels. As regards vegetables, peas, carrots, sweet potatoes, and green vegetables such as celeries are good sources of fiber.

Garlic

Another home remedy for constipation is garlic. Due to the high potassium content of garlic makes it a good aid in the proper contractions of the muscles of the intestines and as a result, would increase peristalsis. Add sliced garlic into a soup, honey or juice and take it thrice daily to facilitate bowel movement.

Lemon Water

Lemons are good source of vitamin C. Our body needs vitamin C to strengthen our immune system. A strong immune system can combat different diseases that may result in constipation as one of its symptoms or effects. To fight constipation, drink a lot of lemon juice and it would be much better if lemon juice is just mixed with water alone, without any sugar or salt in it.

Aloe Vera Juice

Another natural herb to cure constipation is Aloe Vera. People who are suffering from constipation must take Aloe Vera juice for 10 days. The spacing must be 5 days continuous intake of Aloe Vera juice and afterwards pause for 2 days, then continue medication for another 5 days. For people who have chronic constipation problems, their intake of Aloe Vera juice must be on a daily basis.

Castor Oil

One medicinal property of castor oil is its ability to regulate intestinal activities and deliver waste materials. This makes it a good alternative medicine for constipation. Aside from its low price, castor oil is widely available in various market places, groceries and stores. Just mix two to four teaspoonfuls of castor oil to ginger tea and consume it before bedtime.

Drink lots of Water

Drinking the right amount of water gives the body a good chance to fight constipation. If the body does not receive right amount of water, it will compensate for the loss from the water or fluids in the intestinal tracts. When this occurs, the stool would become hard and dry, thus the signs symptoms of constipation will manifest. So, in order to avoid constipation and all its inconveniences, one must drink at least 8 glasses of water in a daily basis. If one is having a hard time drinking water, try adding fruit juices or flavoring to it so that right amount of fluid intake is completed in the diet.
